The Institute of Regional and International Studies (IRIS) at the American University of Iraq, Sulaimani (AUIS) is searching for two candidates to act as Capacity-Building Specialists (part-time contractor) for the Iraq Leadership Fellows (ILF) Program. Candidates should be experienced leaders within their sector, should have a deep understanding of Iraqi politics and society, should have demonstrated a commitment to social and political change, and should be excellent public speakers.
As a joint effort between AUIS, DT Institute, and the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS), the ILF program seeks to equip a generation of politically and socially engaged young Iraqis with cutting-edge leadership skills. This is accomplished through three multi-day training workshops and ongoing mentorship. The Capacity-Building Specialists (CBS) shall be responsible for acting as mentors to the ILF Fellows and teaching the program’s core curriculum. In order to ensure that the two specialists are prepared to provide instruction and training to the ILF’s standards, the first quarter of the position will focus on developing mastery of the ILF curriculum. The position is open to a wide range of individuals from different professional backgrounds.
Note: The position requires regular travel to Sulaimani, Iraq.
Experience in a leadership position.
Proven track record inspiring and motivating diverse teams towards shared goals.
Experience in capacity building, coaching and training.
Minimum 5 years experience working in civil society, politics, or business.
BA in a relevant field; Masters preferred.
Extensive knowledge of the Iraqi context and experience working across the country’s various regions.
A skilled orator capable of giving presentations and communicating to diverse audiences in both English and Arabic.
Fluent in Arabic and English (Knowledge of Kurdish preferred).
Undergo three successive ‘training of trainers’ (ToT) in order to learn and master the ILF curriculum.
Assist the ILF staff in developing and constantly improving the ILF curriculum and capacity building approach.
Deliver three annual workshops to the ILF Fellows.
Provide regular mentorship to the ILF Fellows.
The position will report to the Program Manager of the ILF program and, when requested, the ILF Advisory Council.
Dependent on experience level. The position is a part-time consultancy (paid by the day/hr) and does not include healthcare benefits.
